Hailing from Lörrach she not only plays the game – she is a game changer. Grounded in Basel via Essen, Freiburg, Frankfurt and Bremen she effortlessly exudes swag in every step. Carrying herself with undeniable flair through the areas of the game she never misses out on a single shot with her unmatched passion for 35mm film.
Gigi we love you.
35mmfilmmitdir –
with her second account she’s seeking to capture an almost perfect moment
of beauty in her imaginary.
What do you find is the greatest value to being a pro footballer? What are some of the perks?
MG/ Pro: Devoting all attention to football. And realizing the dream of turning a passion into a career. While in Basel, I stumbled upon a beautiful quote by Ivan Ergic: «As many shadows as football may cast, it has given me a freedom I otherwise wouldn't have», describing this journey from childhood dream.
Perks: The pressure and expectation to perform every single day, pushing oneself to achieve the best.
And what about the greatest misconception/annoyance?
MG/ The lack of appreciation in women’s football. It's not about earning a lot of money but rather being taken seriously, gaining acceptance, and having better structures such as quality training facilities and training schedules. Women’s football is evolving and should be supported.
MG/ Honestly, I have no idea. I never had a backup plan. Football was always my priority. Without it, I’d probably have a regular job.
If you weren’t a pro footballer, how would your life be different? Would you pursue a different career path?
Who is the most inspiring person you have met during your football journey? And why?
MG/ I wouldn't credit it to an individual; for me, it's the football journey itself that mirrors life's peaks and valleys, teaching valuable lessons essential for navigating life's journey.
What is beauty for you?
MG/ Nature.
Your 3 most used apps?
MG/ Spotify.
Instagram.
Camera.
Did you have any idols when growing up? Someone you felt influenced by a lot? Is there anyone influencing rn in the game?
MG/ My brother. I always wanted to be like him–and he was the one that introduced me to playing football. At first, it was a love-hate relationship and truth be told, I never really wanted to play football. It was my brother who always 'forced' me into it, especially since we moved around a lot and didn't have a stable circle of friends.
In terms of the game–Ronaldinho has been a huge inspiration to me. His technique and creativity on the field are simply unparalleled. I wish I could play even a fraction as well as he does, but he played in a different universe…
How would you describe yourself (on and off the pitch) in 3 words? What other 3 words would you like to describe yourself in the future?
MG/Ambitious. Communicative. Fair.
In the future I wish to see things differently–with a more relaxed and laid-back perspective.
Your favorite song atm? Would you share your favorite Spotify Playlist?
MG/ I love EVERYTHING by Fred again but especially vibing with «I found you» und «I’ve been lost».
Listen to Gigi’s playlist
MG/ Memories and emotions. I love capturing the moment, especially through analog photography, where you don't see the result until later, and that ONE shot becomes perfect.
GIGI’S TIP: Don’t chase perfection with hundreds of shots. Sometimes, it's best to trust your instincts, keep it simple and just go for it. And I often play with sunlight and shadows for creative depth...
What does photography mean to you? Any tips for someone who would love to try it?
Favorite sneaker atm?
MG/ Clarks x Kith x Adidas Samba
